Beyond The Lens

Welcome to our new site! There have been some fun changes around here with the launch of the new look and new name. Rachael Silvers Photography will be known as Metropolitan Imageworks going forward. And that's the only change as it's still the same great photography!

Visit all the galleries on our new site and be sure to check back periodically for updates posted on Beyond The Lens.

August Intimate Moment Marathon Sessions

The room is booked and I am extremely excited about the location! It's a very swanky hotel downtown with amazing décor. The dates are August 1st and 2nd.

Our standard price for an Intimate Moments session at a hotel downtown is $600.00, however since it's a Marathon Session and I have booked multiple girls each day I am offering a discounted rate of $400.00. This includes:

  • The location and the digital shoot
  • All edited images in black and white and color on disc with print rights
  • 30 image Asuka book 5x5 paperback pocket album

I will also have Kendra Williams on site for hair and make-up, you can use her for neither, or either or both. She is charging $50.00 for hair and $50.00 for make up.

Please email me at rachael@metimages.com or use our Info Request Form if you would like to book your spot.

New Year, New Offerings!

Welcome to 2008! The momentum keeps building here at Metropolitan Mediaworks, with new locations, new offerings, and the same great service you've come to love!

We're spending our winter months in North Central Arizona in an effort to escape the dreary Midwest winter. While we're here, we're looking to network and establish the Southwest divisions of our businesses. For all you Midwest folks, don't worry - we still have someone here holding down the fort and it's business as usual. However, if you know anyone in Arizona, please do pass on our info if they need photography, videography or multimedia services. We have a new toll-free number for those outside of Illinois - 877-264-PICS (877-264-7427).

I have been busy working on new portrait offerings - while I still cannot get my fill of babies and families - I am working on a package for High School Senior Portraits. If you are looking for something a little different than the traditional studio setting and painted backdrops, contact us to schedule your session. All seniors receive both an online gallery and their edited images on disc. We’re also supplying a second disc with a low-resolution set of watermarked images specifically for posting on sites such as Facebook and Myspace.

Recently we have gotten inquiries for former brides who are looking for a reason to wear their wedding dress again. For those women, we developed Metropolitan Imageworks’ Wear That Dress Sessions.

These sessions are different from “Trash The Dress” sessions as it’s our belief you need not trash your gorgeous wedding gown. Check out the Wear That Dress gallery and let us know if you’d like us to come up with a location or concept specific to you. Husbands are welcome to join in!

Another recent addition to Metropolitan Imageworks' offerings is Intimate Moment Sessions. This is our modern-day interpretation of boudoir photos. At Metropolitan Imageworks we focus on a subtle idea of sensual appeal. Each session includes a small pocket album of 30 images of your choice and the images on disc. We offer sessions at your location or at couture hotels in Chicago. Please contact us for more details.

Our next Marathon Intimate Moments Session is March 7th and 8th and all time slots are booked. Please email us to be included on the waiting list and we will contact you in the event someone cancels. We’re also considering another Marathon Intimate Moments Session the first weekend in August. Stay tuned for details at Beyond The Lens.

Last weekend Vic and I took a sunrise hot air balloon ride to celebrate out 5th wedding anniversary (which was in September!)  Props to Vic for booking our flight with a national company, as it only took us four attempts and two states to fly due to weather cancellations. Check out the photos from arriving at the launch site to the bumpy, "crash" landing in the desert. We’ll have video of the flight and crash landing added soon!

We hope your 2008 is filled with fun, love, and (of course), photos!

WPJA Recognition

I have been a member of the Wedding Photojournalist Association, WPJA, since 2004. Early on I had images place in 8th and 10th place in quarterly competitions. I have consistently submitted entries for each quarterly competition and year end competition since I joined, but the placements were few and far between. For me it's a very challenging process to review images I have shot and have an emotional connection to, to narrow down the choices and try to make the best decision on which images to submit and also to find the appropriate category for each entry. When results are posted and I click through each winning submission and get to the end of the list and realize I did not get recognition on any of my entries, it's disheartening. Yet at the same time I am so inspired by all of the intense images I have just viewed. I realize that the members of the WPJA are truly talented and some of the best photographers in the industry.

The results for Second Quarter 2007 were just announced and I am proud to share that one of my images placed in 14th for the Ceremony category. Judges had this to say, "While you can only see a little sliver of the bride, the viewer gets a fantastic sense of anticipation and excitement. The doors are a great framing tool and the way she is squeezed in the doors creates tension."

Please visit the WPJA website and view the rest of the oustanding winning entries.

The Knot Chicago Feature!

Metropolitan Images is excited to announce that one of our brides is featured in the new The Knot – Chicago magazine, which is currently out in stores. Shannon and Bobby Griffin submitted their August 5th wedding shortly after they were married and the next thing we knew we were receiving a call from The Knot.

Congratulations Shannon & Bobby!

Liz & Dave's wedding. Mykonos, Greece

Victor and I had an amazing opening to our 2007 wedding season and were fortunate enough to travel to Mykonos, Greece for Liz and Dave's wedding on June 7th. Liz has worked with me for 5 years as both an assistant and associate photographer and I was delighted to be chosen to photograph her wedding. Vic captured the ceremony and special details on 8 mm to provide a refreshing, yet retro perspective.

The backdrop of a Greek Villa and Mykonos town made for some incredible images. Vic and I learned first hand the details and expectations of destination weddings. More please!

Now I can also add an incredible fact to my list - I have photographed all three of my associate photographer's own weddings! Liz, Kira & Caryn - thank you! I believe it adds an extra special touch to our clients' service and wedding images to have a team made up of people who have been on all sides, both working for MetImages, delivering our vision and also experiencing first hand the finished product.

We stopped in London for a few days on the return trip and even had a fun side-excursion to Eastbourne to visit with another photographer friend.
