I know I have said this time and time again, but it’s totally worth repeating. My heart sings with joy when I get to photograph the newborn babies of former wedding clients. Gwen and Jarret were married in 2008 and recently welcomed little Maddie to their family. I was ecstatic that her birth coincided with one of my recent visits to Chicago and I was able to introduce Maddie to the wonderful world of Metimages portrait sessions. Her older (fur)bro, Buddy, was very helpful in both his posing and gnawing on my baby basket between sets. Totally ok, because he made up for it in snuggles!

This. This is why I photograph people in their element. It’s not just about the smiling faces, it’s also very much about the un-contrived moment. This is why I don’t put my camera down.

Check out the scrumptious baby hammock my awesome client, Amanda, knitted for me!

Their first “child” deserves a moment in front of the camera, too.

And, it’s a wrap!

Not only is all this travel hard on me because of being apart from my husband, I miss my dog, Mater, tons too. Good thing the neighbors have two gorgeous, sweet-natured and playful English Cocker Spaniels! I get to spend some time with them and get some snuggles and love in return. So today we decided on an impromptu portrait session. They’re very treat motivated!

Way back in the mid 1990′s when I was a photojournalism student at Columbia College Chicago one of my favorite PJ teachers ingrained in me the mantra, “It’s the kids, pets and old people that make a photograph.” I have to agree, Indy totally stole the show during yesterday’s shoot. These teasers are only a very small sampling of what’s to come from the half day I spent with Nancy, Christian and Indy. Stay tuned!

My job is very special in that I get to photograph so many newborn babies. They are just the most precious gift. Bryce was born on September 12th and I was invited to take his pictures just a couple weeks later. He slept for some, he wiggled for some, he looked straight into the camera for some, and he let his big, furry brother, Foster, snuggle up close.

And here is Bryce’s birth announcement. I have mentioned we are full service around here haven’t I?
